The Best Sheepskin Boots: How I Make Them and Why

Making the best sheepskin boots has been my goal since I started Xanthe Anna. But what do I mean by “the best” ? I want these boots to be loved and worn many times. They need to be warm and comfortable, but more than that, they should also look great in colours that suit your style and wardrobe. They are made from ethically sourced materials, can last for years, and are repairable when needed.

I chose to do things differently from fast fashion and focus on quality. It’s rewarding to focus on doing the best I can, rather than taking shortcuts. That’s what motivates me. Slow fashion is about creating pieces designed to last, rather than following short-lived seasonal trends. Slow fashion values care and craftsmanship over cutting corners. My approach is straightforward: I make each boot the best it can be and create products that people genuinely value.

5 Reasons Xanthe Anna Sheepskin Boots are the Best:

  • Ethically sourced materials – High welfare sheepskin, vegetable tanned leather, recycled soles and thread. What are sheepskin boots made of?

  • Built to last and repairable – each pair is made to be worn for years, with a repair service to extend their life.

  • Removable insoles – replace insoles to extend the life of your boots for that cosy new boot feeling. <link to sheepskin insoles>

  • Designed for comfort – barefoot-friendly with a wide toe box and plenty of space to wriggle your toes.

  • Customise – choose your colours, boot height, and type of sole to create your perfect sheepskin boot.

How Are The Best Sheepskin Boots Made?

Many boots are made in large factories overseas, where each worker specialises in a single part of the process. At Xanthe Anna, I make every pair myself from start to finish, so I know exactly what goes into each boot, and can make each pair the best it can be.

Here’s what the making process looks like:

  • Select the best sheepskin for size, style, and type of boot.

  • Plan the layout carefully to make the most of each skin, then cut the pieces.

  • Sew the pieces together, precisely.

  • Emboss, skive and burnish the veg-tan leather heel.

  • Sew the leather heel onto the sheepskin.

  • Attach the innersole.

  • Glue the outer sole.

  • Finish the top edge with hemp binding.

  • Check every detail before it leaves the workshop

I see the whole process through from start to finish. I’m familiar with the way that one stage affects the next. Each skin is unique, and as I cut and shape it, I learn its character, ensuring I can make the best decisions and achieve the best possible outcome.

Small batch, careful making means I can focus on quality. Every pair is perfected, checked, and finished with the same attention to the details.

Sheepskin Boot Colours: Choose the Best for You

Choosing your colours is one way to make these boots uniquely yours. With this personal touch, they’ll be the best sheepskin boots you’ve ever owned. My custom made sheepskin boots come in four popular sheepskin colours: navy blue, dark brown, light grey, and dusky pink.

Explore these sheepskin boot colours:

With your choice of leather heel and thread colour, your boots can be subtle and matching, or you can create a more dynamic look by adding a second colour. Options include burnt orange, teal, or leopard print. Blue and brown sheepskin have the most combination possibilities. Every colour combination on this site has been carefully curated to ensure it looks beautiful.

To choose the best colours for you, think about where you’ll wear your boots. If they’re for going out and about, consider the colour of your favourite winter coat. If they’re for wearing at home, think about your carpet, rugs, or dressing gown. If you need help deciding, I can send colour samples in the post, just email me with your postal address and the colours of sheepskin and leather you’d like to see.

So, are these the best sheepskin boots?

If you ask my customers, the answer is yes. Some of my favourite feedback includes:

“They are quite literally the best pair of sheepskin boots ever.”

Every pair is made with the wearer in mind. From choosing colours and height to selecting the right sole, people design their boots to suit their own style and needs, and I make them carefully, especially for them. Hearing how much the boots are enjoyed shows that they really are the best sheepskin boots.
